Kaka’ako, Honolulu, Hawaii

The area of Kaka’ako is bordered by Ala Moana Boulevard, downtown Honolulu, and Honolulu Harbor. Once home to Native Hawaiian royalty and agricultural activities, it became an industrial district for the city. Now, residential developments and commercial projects have transformed the area into a trendy urban neighborhood.

“Salt” is part of sustainable development project that reuses existing warehouses for local retail and restaurateurs. It’s designed for locals and visitors to enjoy a cosmopolitan environment accompanied with green, open-air spaces.

Many of the industrial buildings have also received a face lift with catchy new murals, which has begun to draw tourists to this previously unexplored part of town.

In addition to the sparkling new condo complexes, residents and visitors can also enjoy the area’s civic centers, parks, breweries, and natural grocery stores. When staying in Kaka’ako, you’re also in walking distance to the beach, harbors (and cruise boat dock), and China Town.
